Privacy Policy

Story Bank ("we," "us") helps job seekers store reusable "stories" about their work and generate tailored answers to job-application questions from them. This page covers the web app at usestorybank.com and the Story Bank browser extension, since the extension talks to the same account and the same data.

What we collect

• Account info: your email address and a hashed password (we never store your password in plain text).
• Stories: the work-history content you write into your Story Bank — titles and story text.
• Applications: the company and role you're applying to, and any job-posting text you paste in or that the extension reads from the page, so answers can be tailored to that posting.
• Generated answers: the screening-question text and the answer we generate for it, so you can see your history and so we can detect when you're about to reuse the same story at the same company.
• Usage events: basic product events (e.g. "story created," "answer generated") used for our own internal metrics. We don't use any third-party analytics or advertising trackers — this stays in our own database.
• Extension pairing token: a random token (not your password) that lets the browser extension act as you when it calls our API. You can regenerate it at any time from your dashboard, which immediately invalidates the old one.

What the browser extension does, specifically

The extension only activates when you click its button on a job-application page. When you do, it reads the nearby question text and a copy of the visible page text (to give the answer generator context on the posting), sends that plus the company/role you confirm to our API, and writes the generated answer into the form field on the page. It does not run in the background, does not track your browsing, and does not read or send anything from pages you haven't clicked the button on.

Who we share it with

• Anthropic (our AI provider) processes your stories, the job-posting text, and the question to draft each generated answer. Anthropic does not receive your email or password.
• Dodo Payments (our payment processor) handles billing for paid subscriptions. We never see or store your card details — Dodo does, under its own privacy policy.
• Neon and Render, our database and hosting providers, store the data described above on our behalf, as infrastructure processors.

We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with anyone else.

Your controls

• Edit or delete any story or application at any time from your dashboard.
• Regenerate or revoke your extension token at any time.
• Cancel your subscription from the billing page, which stops future charges immediately.
• Email support@usestorybank.com to request a copy of your data or full account deletion.
